The sun sets on another day…
once again the sunset was gray and snowy but the fluffy snow was fun and the dog loved playing in it.
Today’s post will be a little shorter as I give you a short story of less than 250 words that I wrote for Facebook. the premise of the story was wrapped around the first sentence and all of the people writing stories had to use that sentence. Enjoy:
Half the names in the list had already been crossed off. I stared at the list as though I expected it to change on its own. I held it in both hands then brushed it against my pants wiping away the tears that had fallen upon it. I had never considered the freedoms that all of us in our country had possessed. I thought I was on the side of freedom and justice. It was be more complicated now. Cancel Culture had become commonplace with the elimination of the 1st and 2nd amendments. We were the law now, the only law.
I turned to the team behind me and pointed across the street in the clean brownstone neighborhood. The streets were clear except for us, curfew was in effect. The team, my team, ran across the street and pointed their weapons to the door of the home. The polished bronze door waited patiently for me to knock as I reluctantly sauntered up the steps. All of the thoughts going through my mind were now pushed into a corner by my job. I knocked at the door.
The young woman before me had beautiful brown hair and piercing blue eyes. She looked up at me, “Daddy?”
Silently, I nodded to the men behind me and they grabbed my daughter taking her to the waiting containment vehicle. She screamed my name. Closing the door, I saw the faded Red Hat, shook my head, then crossed my daughter’s name from the list.
So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you have a fantastic day and enjoy every moment, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and check it off…
