Sundays are for book reviews!- Transcendence by Norman E. Rosenthal, M.D. ☆☆☆ of ☆☆☆☆☆
I had high expectations for this book, and they were not met. Still, for most people this would be an amazing treatise into the need for TM, and for the proof that it does make a difference. As I read it restated items that I had researched long ago, and I wondered if others felt similarly about the book.
As I went to Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and Goodreads and confirmed what I already thought. This was an opener for some, and a sales article for many others. To me it was the latter.
It is true, I enjoyed the proof pointing to an obvious end, but there was no outcome for the reader or myself as I found nothing more than what I already do. There was no prophetic voice for anyone who already understands the benefits of TM except agreement. After reading I could have easily turned to the end and looked up the site, which I did, connected, and learned about the course costs to learn the techniques not described in detail in the book. Overall I was not super impressed with the book except for the sales pitch, and that was very good. I would say most people who had not studies or practiced any type of TM would be engaged, but many who are more advanced would be left with a hollow feeling. To me this is why about 42% gave the book 3 stars and under out of 5. I fit right in that group.
3 stars for good writing and a great introduction into the art and science of TM.
