Sundays are for book reviews, and in this case a review of what was read this week:
The following books were read this week, reviews are with noted highs.
Tinderella Diary: An Erotic Memoir – ***** – A fun read. I do not normally read journal style but this good. The book was a rollercoaster of personal interactions that had you wanting to turn the next page. I enjoyed the perspectives but was filled with mixed emotions as the book progressed. A fun slice of life and an interesting journey into Tinder hookups and the life of a woman who explores them quite well.
Sex, Lies & Sweet Tea – ***** – I have to give this a 5 just because I was drawn in to the story. That being said if you are “sensitive” you may notice some words are overused (I did that in my first “massive” book, lol) and there were some things worked in where they didn’t really need to be there. Still, if you go looking for perfection, good luck. If you want to be entertained, read on. Mac and Sam were meant for each other. Secondary stories aside this was a fun love story and mystery with a nice romance, full of heart, and a series of foundations that may well take this a long way. (It already has, I am just a few years behind) The story has well developed characters and a snappy bit of wit that is not always the “over the top” writers method of baffling readers with expected words. Instead Calvert presents our story in real world English. About the only thing I did not like was the overuse of “pet names” when the couple were talking, but it did not detract from my interest. |
Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones – *** – The habits noted are all good, there is just a little too much fluff and not enough action. I have read many of these lately that have a short lesson but not a lot of actual practice or even suggestion. Still, the message is good. |
Sex, Lies & Lipstick – ***** – A fun second in the series finds our main characters back and a number of new characters joining the fray. The style and approach of the second book is much more measured and polished as well as a lot of fun. I found myself turning pages in rapid succession to see what would happen next. sorry, no spoilers from me, but so far the series is witty and a fun read. |
Peaks and Valleys: Making Good And Bad Times Work For You–At Work And In Life – ***** – I know I know, I may be weird but I like the way Johnson writes and pulls a story into a series of lessons. Easy quick read that should stick with you if you let it.
The Tarot Directory: Unlock the Meaning of the Cards, Spreads, and the Mystery of the Tarot – **** – Good starter book. Interesting exercises associated with each of the major arcana and a lot of interesting insights. This is a basic book. If you are looking for dynamic interpretations or advanced analysis this may not help you in your quest. Still, it is a fun read with good illustrations. |
The Complete Fiction of H.P. Lovecraft – ***** – This is a long book. It may take you a while to read. |
Life Is Good: The Book – **** – Uplifting book with a nice message. There were a few places it seemed to struggle but as a whole this is a good read and a good gift to someone who needs a way to see the world a little bit of extra optimism.
I Moved Your Cheese: For Those Who Refuse to Live as Mice in Someone Else’s Maze – **** – I wasn’t sure what to expect when I got this book. It was on a whim and mostly because I enjoyed the book “Who moved my Cheese” and the lesson it taught. In this book by an unrelated author the ideas are challenged and I have to say I like the way this is approached. Why? Well, if you can read this book and pay attention to the underlying story, it is a way to see the world in a new way, perhaps a way to overcome anxiety and stress in your everyday. In the end, it was still fun and I smiled a little upon completing it. (It is a quick read with some good follow ups to consider) |
Happy reading to all! Links will take you to Goodreads! Have an amazing day!
