The sun sets on another day…
Sunset was a surprise. The day was filled with rain and storms. Suddenly the skies cleared, and there was color everywhere. To the east, I am sure rainbows found their way to the sky, but I was thankful for the glorious end to a magnificent day.
Consider with me for a moment. At the end of the day, your day ends. At the end of your life, well, what now? There are of course a lot of things said, and a lot of beliefs. I will not add mine to the confusion that most people feel. Instead I can say with most certainty that at the end of our life here we are no longer here as we are here now. (You can spend some time debating that with yourself, but I chose the words carefully to cover virtually all religions and thought processes. Even the ones with icky worms and stuff)
The thought behind 29000 sunsets is that our days are finite. I chose the 29000 to represent the average lifespan in the USA, but there are no guarantees. Every day is a possibility for anything. With that in mind, if tomorrow was to be your last day as you are, what would you do differently? Why aren’t you now?
Easy isn’t it? Why aren’t you now?
I talked to someone who was going through a horrible time. Most cannot imagine the horror and pain of cancer, and if you can, I feel for you. The number 1 regret, according to 1 source for people at the end, was “I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.” Think about that for a moment.
If we are to accept we are finite, perhaps it is time to break that chain and become infinite. If we are to assume that we are the creatures we should be, we need to be true to ourselves each day. Sure, there are many other things to consider, but for the largest, we must consider that we should be true to ourselves. Even Hamlet was told this, but I often wonder if it was part of an elaborate farce considering the source. (Another time)
Are you true to yourself? Can you find that life that is true to who you are? Just think about it and consider.
So as the sun sets on another day, I try to be true to myself each day. As I do so, I feel good about the life I lead and good about where I am. I am not perfect, but I am true to myself, and in doing so, I offer the best of myself that I can to others. After all, to be true to others, you have to be true to yourself. Consider it well, and find a way to be happy with who you are each and every day, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and who makes up these rules anyway…
