The sun sets on another day…
The world rolled in. The storms were high above but there was magic in the air for a moment as the clouds parted in the last portion of the day spraying light through the deep rain. Suddenly there was a rainbow, and the pot of gold was only 50 feet ahead of me. I smiled as I watched the colors shimmer and laughed for just a moment as pink began to fill the sky.
Today a series of storms hammered across Michigan. Some of them were quite powerful and a few created tornadoes that scattered the world asunder. I watched the sky and was amazed at the amount of rain that came in such a short time. My driveway filled with water, and I was taken aback by the sheet after sheet avoid rain that slammed upon us. It was a bit intense. As the first wave ended the rainbow appeared and I thought about how sometimes it takes a storm to make you appreciate the calm.
There are some fun statements out there like “it’s always calmest before the storm” and “we are in the calm before the storm” but a lot of people take for granted the calm after the storm. The world is clear and clean and the skies are often wiped clean by the fury of the rain.
Now I know many people avoid storms. They can be quite challenging from time to time. I would like to think that the storm opens up possibilities and ways that we can approach the world after the storm.
How can we do this in life? How can we realize that the storm doesn’t really last very long? How can we see past the tempest before us to the calm after?
A long time ago someone gave me a definition of peace. At the time I wasn’t sure what peace was, but now I know that perhaps peace is the quiet moment after a storm where your satisfaction sinks in and you realize that you overcame another storm.
So as the sun sets on another day, don’t run away from the storm. Run through it. Realize that after the storm there are always possibilities and make the best out of the calm. Be who you are always, and define your days well, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and thunder is awesome…
