The sun sets on another day…
The sun is as unwavering as anything we know. It is predictable to a moment, never missing a beat. If you want to bet on a sure thing, you can always bet on how the sun will cross the sky.
People are not so predictable. This ends a particularly trying week of unpredictability. Each day was an adventure, and each moment a step through unpredictability. In the midst of it all I had an amazing laugh. I was waiting on a conference call with a group of people. The music on the call was one of the annoying batches created to miss on any type of royalties while being sufficiently annoying to push out anyone but the most patient waiting groups.
As we waited, I stood up and started walking around. Not anything bad, just walking and in the process was amazed at how much fun I was having, so I started dancing to this extremely poor music. Then I started jumping forward and backward and at one moment jumped high and landed on the floor, and the music skipped. Now normally this would not be funny, like who cares, but it was so well timed that it could have been a real skip as if the world was on a giant record, and I had just made the needle jump. All of us in the room began laughing. The chances were one in a billion for that timing, but it was perfect to break up the day.
How often do we miss when our phone skips? That light moment that makes the heavy moments less hurtful and makes us feel just a little bit better when we were feeling pressures or worse. How often do we miss the phone skipping? Take a moment and pay attention and look for those moments. The funny water cooler spray, the face first plant with eggs in a grocery basket, or the phone skipping from a jump. Laugh a little, make light, and enjoy the moments you have even more.
So as the sun sets on another day, the phone skipped, and I kept on dancing while I was laughing. Maybe its time for everyone to dance until their phone skips, then maybe we will all laugh, all smile, and maybe, just maybe, enjoy the day.
Sleep sweet, dance your hardest, and love to the moon and back, and the stars beyond…
