Steps…

The sun sets on another day…

A long time ago I wrote a story “Thanks for the Ride” about my children and my dog, Shiva. Shiva was a big dog, and was easy going unless she was in a bad situation. She kept the kids safe, and tolerated them all the time. On a particular day my daughter decided she loved Shiva’s tail. So she hung on to it. The dog did not care. Shiva was over 90 pounds, my daughter about 40. So as we walked around the house as a human train, me, Shiva, then my daughter one step at a time, it eventually ended up that I got to far ahead, and my daughter was drug down the hall, hanging onto the tail of a dog, laughing all the way.

Sometimes we think we are taking steps in the right direction, holding on to something, but we don’t realize we have given up our control along the way. It is hard to see sometimes that one misstep may drag us along straight down a hallway. Maybe we need to sometimes let go, or maybe as we get pulled down the hallway, we need to take a moment and laugh. I think it will be up to us to determine the best possible approach, and up to us to make the best of whichever way we go, and laugh all the way.

So as the sun sets on another day, well, there are lots of things to be thankful for, right? There are also lots of things we may be riding out in life, and as we do, perhaps we should take a step back, and enjoy the moments. Maybe sometimes we should just roll with what is going on, and along the way, enjoy the ride. Maybe, just maybe, the ride is half the trick of making it all work. I like to think we can all be happy if we laugh a little, don’t get angry, and enjoy ourselves, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love life, and don’t hold on to the dogs tail too long…
