The sun sets on another day…
As I watched the sunset fall away from the sky there was something else there. A quick twist of the lens and I could see a cloud on the horizon raining on another, while the sun set. Now I know everyone saw this same thing, or did they? I know I know, I think about silly things way too much, but as this is a treatise, or tome, or series of random thoughts left for my children and all of you who read it, I had to consider. Did anyone see what I saw, or were they locked in their view of the sunset so closely that it was just a series of shapes in the sky?
Wouldn’t it be great if the world saw everything the same. We could glance at the sky and all agree it was blue, or look at the ocean and describe it in such clarity that it was perfect in front of us. Instead we see things from our point of view, and rarely step out of that cosmic cage. We can deeply understand the song of the lark, or think it is mindless dribble. We can feel the wind as it strums our very soul, or think the wind is cold and bothersome. Some see the heat as stifling, while others see the cold as oppressive, and in the end, only the little bear has it just right.
Somehow we have to find a way to see at least similar, but so far, I just don’t have that magic formula that makes it all work. I don’t have the ability to let anyone see past, well, myself. No, I will say I try with lots of analogies for all the experiences I have had. I will say I reach into my mind and try to show people that there is more than just the things they see, but often I miss, not because I want to miss, but because they want to or worse, they have to miss.
So as the sun sets on another day, all I can say to everyone is, keep trying. There is a formula there that works. There is a word that opens doors, or an action that lets people see, but in the end both have to be willing. Until that time, I will still let the analogies flow, I will still try to find that word, and I will keep trying, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and see more…
