The sun sets on another day…
Sunset was amazing as far as the eye could see, and of course farther. How could we expect any less than perfection from a sunset so powerful in the near twilight sky. How can we feel anything but awe to the striking colors that it sends out to us all.
I thought a lot today about the works selfless and selfish. they are used so often, but sometimes they do not mean what people think they mean. Seems pretty straight forward, right? Selfish is – “lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one’s own personal profit or pleasure.” While selfless is – “concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one’s own; unselfish.” Opposites, right?
Maybe.
Maybe they are far closer bedfellows than we think. If what you want is to give to others, but giving to others are you selfish or selfless? By that same token, if you give to others to feel good about yourself, are you selfless, or selfish? I know, I know, does it matter? I think it does.
there are a lot of people who think they are very selfless, but are actually selfish as they get their pleasure from pleasing. In as much as it is possible, this creates a situation where there is imbalance.
I am not sure if there is a solution to this, or even if there is a question, but somewhere in the depths of what is, there is at least a moment of self reflection.
So as the sun sets on another day, well, I struggle with this from time to time. Not because it is complex, but because I have known a lot of people, and, perhaps I am overthinking, but some of them were not what I thought, and maybe I am not as I think either. Maybe in the end, we just need to find as much happiness, and give as much happiness as we can, no matter what.
