How high…

The sun sets on another day…

Sundays often find me feeling very happy. An end of the week or a beginning and a time when a friend and I can shoot pictures in strange new places or familiar old ones. So today, we decided on something new. (Strange new place)

As you go to something new you can be challenged by the location in some ways. What we found were a series of stairs, more stairs, mosquitoes, a few more stairs, some leaves, more mosquitoes, a bunch of people, a very nice couple from Ann Arbor, some more stairs, and finally a beautiful view, of more stairs. (Well, and a lake)

I was impressed. The location and everything about it was nice, but I was more impressed we survived the stairs.

Well, not really. As we climbed stairs I quoted “Hacksaw Ridge” and said just one more, a lot of times, and really, except for a little wincing and a little adaptation, we made it with no real issue. We made it without knowing where we would end, or what was on the other side, we just kept going until we got there, took some pictures, then came back.

Sometimes everyone seems to get involved in things without really knowing how high it will go. Sometimes we are going forward, sometimes going back, and sometimes we are just cruising along, but we may not have an endgame except to climb that hill, go the distance, and experience something more. In life, it is hard to know what is around the next corner and often when you think things are low, they are actually high if you just reach out and let them be. How high do you want to go? What is stopping you? Let go, find your way, and go further. You can do it. Don’t worry about how high, just keep climbing.

So as the sun sets on another day, I remembered the song “The bear went over the mountain” and laughed for a few. As we reached the platform overlooking lake Michigan we were truly seeing “The other side of the mountain. It was there we laughed, took pictures, talked to people, then made our way back. Today we climbed a dune, tomorrow who knows, but in the end we will never worry about how high we have to go, and instead just keep going, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love life, and aim high…
