The sun sets on another day…
Sunset was surprising. As snow fell the sky broke and there was a sunset, a molten globe shining through the lightly falling snow. Red glimmers of light spotted the horizon while I drove, and I smiled for a moment, happy that sunset said hello.
I take walks with the dogs, usually only the driveway, but sometimes longer. These happen at all times of the day and night. Last night I was taking a walk while most of you were asleep and realized I had forgotten my flashlight. It was dark but not so dark as I thought as the moon was there, and I kept walking. A short time later I felt as though I was walking in the day. It was telling. My eyes adjusted, the sky was almost bright, the tracks in the snow told stories of their own and only my dog, Luna, seemed to blend into the night, her white coat shimmering.
Sometimes we are so focused on shining a light on our path that we don’t see much else. If we would take a moment and stop shining lights on what we think is important we may find that there is a lot more to see than we thought. Sometimes we just need to take a walk and realize there is a lot more to the world.
So as the sun sets on another day, turn off the light to see? Sounds good to me. Open your eyes and see more, learn more, know more. Along the way find the lights that guide you and enjoy all you can, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, smile as often as you can, and keep walking…
