Crushed it…

The sun sets on another day…

Sunset was extreme, and the moments were worth counting as the sun set in the western sky.

I laugh at the idea of “crushed it” which seems to be a new endearment for doing super well! It has always had the positives, but it often reminds me of a time long ago.

While I was in college I worked stock crew. While I did so I was working 2 other jobs and going to school full time. To keep me going I was constantly on the move and would never slow down at all. If I did, I would sleep, and sleep too long sometimes. (Out of 168 hours in a week I was working normally about 90-100 plus school). One of my pastimes to be silly was crushing broken pallets. I would put my fist through the boards with ease as the pallets were made of soft wood. This allowed us to break them down further as they could not be reused. (Nowadays they would be made into walls)

Anyway, one day I was cleaning up and there was a twisted broken pallet that should never have had anything on it, and I was being a normal 20 year old, so I reared back and smashed it as I yelled “I will crush this mess”. Little did I know that the supports were warped as well, and the normally easy hit that would break down hit a support beam. The result was I crushed my hand pretty good. Sure, the pallet was worse for the wear, but I paid for that for a few weeks.

My points, yes, there were points here. I learned this day that acting too fast can be a bad thing. I also learned that you should never assume, and lastly I learned I was no impervious, and it cost me a sore hand. All of these are good lessons.

What lessons do you learn? What did you learn that you still use? What simple trigger reminds you of a larger truth? There are tons of lessons, and maybe we could pay attention to our lessons and somehow get past mistakes before we make them.

So as the sun sets on another day, I crushed it, well, mostly my hand, but I learned and that made it worth it. Failure is not as bad as you think if you learn from it, laugh, love, and laugh some more, and mostly make every day a good day, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love life, and live it every day…
