The sun sets on another day…
Sunset was amazing and surprised me. The lower clouds were hidden and the twilight came fast as the even was upon me. I smiled as I took picture after picture and laughed at the crowd watching the sun. Somewhere in it all I sang: “All is well, fare thee well, the day is done.” Not exactly the words, but they were mine and it fit.
I thought a lot today about the measure of man. Not man as a sex, but man as a creature on this planet. Man as all of us, of every color and creed, sex and persuasion, man as us all. The question I pondered is how do we measure ourselves.
I was quickly reminded of movies and books I have read and the idea that we are great or good based on how we approach the world, and what effect we have upon it all. I considered the words I wrote about today here. I also thought about how we define ourselves by objects, I wrote about that here. Then I considered the mistakes we make as I wrote here. To put it simply, I was trying to determine how to measure a man and was measuring how I have done it before.
Then I considered, pondered, pontificated, and more. With those thoughts I feel the measure of a man is who they are today, this day, not yesterday or tomorrow, but instead how we are measured today. My son and I discussed this last week on a long drive, and we talked about how people are who they are. I agree. People are who they are and as they are, so they will be. Wow, that is confusing, but it makes sense. If we define ourselves each day, then each day we are measured by our definition of us. Each day we become more or less of who we should be, and in that we are fulfilled.
So as the sun sets on another day, no day is a pass. You are the measure of yourself each day as am I. We are the measure of a race each day, and what we do affects us all. Make you the best you that you can, and enjoy your eve, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and feel…
