The sun sets on another day…
It was a sunset filled with a storm rolling in making for unique clouds and a unique and beautiful skyline. I watched for a while and wondered if the storm would come.
People are, well, people. It’s amazing to me how so many people can rationalize different or differently and make a person into something less.
My best friend used to have a store where most of the customers were benign and where the interactions between people were usually polite. This is not normally the case. People are treated less positively if they are in a support role or a service industry. This is not right.
I’m sitting in an industry right now surrounded by people trying to get their jobs done. They are supporting many customers and in the process I see patrons treating them as non-entities or treating them with a lack of respect. As I am completely over the top I go 100% the opposite way and in doing so I create situations where some people feel uncomfortable.
No, I don’t want people to feel uncomfortable, instead I want people to feel as though each person has value. Today as I was walking through a security gate with a security guard who wore a grim visage I told them that I would help them find their way to a good day and ask who had upset them so far. They smiled and they laughed and they said nobody really cares. I told the young person not to worry and that I believed in them and in a different world I would have given them a hug. They came out behind their Podium and hugged me hard for a moment and said “thanks for noticing me”.
I laughed and became a part of it and enjoyed every moment going forward as I walked through the beautiful area.
For the next several hours I talked to people I didn’t know and spend time trying to get to know people I would likely never see you again. In the end it would be an awesome time.
As the day waned I found myself feeling good about life and about all the people that I had met. There is no better time than learning more about the world and in the process learning more about yourself.
Please, when you interact with people remember you have not walked in their shoes and also remember that they are part of this world and that bare minimum treat them with the respect you would like to be treated with.
So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you find the path to happiness and along the way build foundations that have people remembering you in a positive life. Remember you are special each and every day and your choices affect everyone around you. Keep making the world a better place, no matter what.
