The sun sets on another day…
There is always Beauty in a sunset if you look for it. Tonight was no different. The sky was alive with color and a cloud to the Far West lit up in Reds and oranges as though it were a silent battleship wandering through the sky still on fire from the latest battle. It was beautiful.
At this point I have had nine German Shepherds, three rescues, and two American Eskimos in my life. The animals are a part of who I am and if I had my choice I would have a kennel right now and be raising talented animals for people to take care of or more likely for the animals to take care of them.
Dogs are probably one of the best animals there can be. Yes I know there is a constant debate between cat lovers and dog lovers and I love cats as well, but dogs can be a clear asset by their willingness to help and be involved in people day today.
I learned only recently as I read yet another book the German Shepherds were bred to be potentially disobedient. The creator of the breed wanted a dog that could disobey its owner if it put the owner in danger or created a situation that was a danger. I laughed at that as all of my German Shepherds have been incredibly obedient except my current one who is constantly questioning whether she needs to follow a command or not.
I wonder why?
The commands can be something easy or something more complicated and if we are in the groove doing training she will absolutely follow commands no questions asked, but if we are just loose and I ask her to do something she will look at me yawn and then look away as though she is trying to decide if my command holds merit. It seems kind of silly sometimes.
In the end my world has been a better place because of her and because of this new approach to training that I have to endure. Now I have to measure the command and almost explain why I am giving it where previously I just knew it would be followed.
Have you ever had a willful animal? Do you feel that a dog should have the right to disobey its owner? People expect that from cats, but not dogs. Is that fair? Does it all matter at all?
So as the sun sets on another day, pepper is a good girl and I appreciate having her and going through the hours and hours of training that we go through. I hope you find your companion whether human or animal and enjoy time with them always, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and woof woof…
