The sun sets on another day…
The clear sky created another amazing sunset. It was the stuff of dreams, and I watched the sky shift through the trees until it was gone, and only hints of color remained.
I was driving down the highway today thinking about very little and suddenly passed a a car with a woman looking towards me but not seeing me. Her face was framed by the edge of the window and her long dark hair hung around her hardened features. She was pretty but not stunning, beautiful but not overwhelming, and did not see me or even know I existed. The man driving the car was oblivious while watching the road with his blinders on, never to acknowledge the world or anything around, including her. He didn’t see me either.
First I have to state that it is sad that the world is come to this, where people don’t see each other and avoid contact and even more. Second, I thought a lot about what was on that woman’s mind. It could have been something as innocent as how to make the perfect pastry. It could have been thinking of a recipe, a work problem, a problem with the kids, or something completely innocent.
She also could have been thinking about something devastating. So many people go through trauma alone and never realize all of the help they could get if only they asked. I was in awe. I was sad and happy at the same time, this person could be facing something frivolous or they also could be looking at the world and finding despair.
I hope that she found the happiness that she deserved and as she went down the road of life and realized that she was special and that she was enough.
Do you ever get lost in the car? Do you ever find yourself wondering about things, not realizing you are in a goldfish bowl for all to see? I hope you do as I do, and watch, wave, and be a little silly instead.
So as the sun sets on another day, thanks for being you. Be amazed at all that is, and somewhere along the way, find the best you, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and drive hard…
