The sun sets on another day…
Another stunning sunset, but what do you expect. It is beautiful all the time in the fall, and all around. The skies are stunning, and the waves reflect the light, making them stunning too!
I find myself getting into a rhythm. It’s working out to my advantage. As any of you that follow know, Slices of Fear is released in just a few days. Believe it or not I have sales. I’m very proud of the book and even more proud of the cover even if I have to explain that I put the words off center you give it a little extra edge and give people something to ask questions about.
Tonight, I have another announcement. For a long time I have worked on a personal project called Burial Ground. I had written a short story and had my good friend Gary tell me that it needed to be longer. I thought about it for a while and realized I could make just about any of my stories much longer if I just took the time. The initial story was a short story almost a novella at 15,000 words and as of tonight the book Burial Ground is a little over 60,000 words with maybe a chapter left for completion.
I spent some time fighting with Photoshop and playing with images from Canva and other sources and came up with a decent cover. The way that you can work elements now gives you a serious number of possibilities when it comes to creating custom graphics. So now I have a cover, ISBN’s, a story, and a missing forward and a little bit of verbiage.
I enjoy reading this book and I have read it many times but will work with an editor and come up with a fantastic launch or at least a good launch or maybe just a launch.
What’s the difference?
This story has been stuck in my head for years and it will be good for it to be completed. This story is very lean and thin and leans towards young adult. It follows Martha who made a mistake in the city and forced her parents to relocate for her sake to the country. I don’t put it in any one location and instead build the world around the house. Martha’s house is adjacent to Native American land and there was some frustration with the possibility that it could be their land and have a burial ground on it.
Martha quickly makes friends with Joe, Fawn, and their friends and realizes there’s far more to life than just social media and loose knit friendships. The book takes place over a seven day period where we see a young lady change her mind and let go of a lot of the problems she was creating for herself.
During COVID and right before when I began writing this story there was a significant outcry against things like cultural appropriation and a variety of other statements. I have been very careful in writing this book as it is a work of fiction that involves Native Americans and the biases between the white man and the inhabitants of the reservation. Of course there’s going to be somebody that cries, or thinks that I have done something wrong. I am hopeful that the research and the discussions I have had with people who live on the reservation create more positives than negatives but who knows. Tomorrow I could be canceled.
Still, I think the story will stand on its own. I like to think it’s unique and I drew from my experiences growing up and the few happy times that I had in the country with people who cared about the land and did the things I share in this story. Yes, it is a work of fiction. It is also a retelling of many of the events in my life and a bit of excitement surrounding magic and the possibilities surrounding magic.
I hope you’ll take a moment and share the book with me when it comes out. At the current time I am hopeful for a November 10th release but we all know how that goes. Still, I find myself driven to complete this book and two others that are close to completion.
Sometime before the first of the year I hope to complete 14 Stairs. The book is actually complete and describes my challenges after having a valve job and spending a little time dead.
Some time before the first of the year I hope to complete Stealth Ride. I started writing this book when I was in Lexington 13 years ago, and I hope that I can finish it quickly as I feel that the story is still pertinent and the ending is a twist that you won’t see coming.
Of course I have 37 open projects right now, actually 38. As I push through those I’m hopeful I can make at least one person smile, one person laugh, and at least one person enjoy my book and maybe even leave a review.
Thanks for reading.
So as the sun sets on another day, yes I’m reading a lot, yes I’m writing a lot, but mostly I’m enjoying life every day, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and please leave a review…
