The sun sets on another day…
The rain tinkled across my windshield as the wipers flashed back and forth. Sunset was before me but all I would see what’s the occasional flash of light from an ongoing car as darkness took over the land. Still, I knew that high above there was hope and a beautiful sunset.
I get lost in songs often. It used to be I was lost in the melodies, rarely paying attention to the words. That progressed over time and I found myself paying attention to the story that each song was trying to convey and then paying more attention to the combination of the words and the melody. I am very impressed with those who have mastered their music and put it out there for others to see. Although I have written some very interesting songs that play over and over in my head still, i do not have the current capability of writing the music that plays in my mind. Oops I’m going down the wrong path.
One of my favorite songs is The Impossible Dream. I have a significant number of different versions of this song by many different artists from Jim Neighbors to Johnny Mathis. For a long time I was fascinated by both the tune and the words to this song and it came down to a very simple reason. How committed are you to doing the right thing?
Recently I read a book about morals, actually last week. The book was very interesting because morals are something that humans created. Whether based on religion, people, time, or just a group of ideas, morality and the idea of right and wrong has been fluid over history. (I’m happy to debate this, but it really isn’t that important. History already notes how my idea of horrible things can be justified and how my idea of good things can be vilified quite often.)
My question to you for today is quite simple, is there something that you would be willing to march into hell for? Is there a cause or an idea that you would give up everything you are and everything you could be to save someone or something else? Don’t answer too quick, there are lots of things to think about, I just wanted you to consider how a simple song can get you to a point where you may face an ultimate “what if”.
Now sit back in that chair for a moment and think about something more fun. Think about the beauty of the sunset and how many amazing days we have spent together watching the sun said in the sky and laughing as each day becomes more and more fantastic. It’s a good thought I think.
So as the sun sets on another day, I hope your day is amazing. If you saw the sunset as I did with shades of gray becoming darkness, remember that only a short distance above the clouds the sun was setting with all its magnificent beauty heralding the end of a day. If you got to see a better sunset, all the better. After all, you got to enjoy a unique experience and probably a little more. In the end I hope you had a fantastic day and enjoyed all of your moments, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and be alive…
