The sun sets on another day…
As the sun set in the western sky I smiled again. It’s not that there was anything funny, just the satisfaction of seeing the colors fade into life and pass into existence. One step becomes another and another step becomes a third and so it goes and you can do nothing but enjoy it as he watched the sky shimmer in front of you.
I have said over and over that we should consider ourselves and not whine about the past, pine about the future, but instead define ourselves every day. I have not given the best advice all the time, nor do I live the best advice. There are often things that I do that I probably shouldn’t, and things that I should do that I miss for whatever reason.
The trick is to be happy with yourself in the moment. Let me say that again, the trick is to be happy with yourself in the moment.
I have been in situations in my life where things that happened in the past haunted me so much that I couldn’t enjoy the present. No matter how many books I read or how many advice columns I looked over, I just couldn’t understand the idea of carpe diem, the idea of seizing the moment without regard to what has happened.
At the same time I have ruined many a situation by thinking about tomorrow when I should have been thinking about today. As I engaged in whatever action, I would look at the situations and create my own little hell worrying about my resolution when I could have been focused on other things it gave me some sort of satisfaction and set aside the what if scenario where I may not have it as good tomorrow. If you have it good today call why are you watching tomorrow so closely?
This is far worse. When I was younger I was in a relationship and often I created situations that were untenable because I was worried about the next time without focusing on the current time. To truly enjoy the world we must take a stance that is a little more nonchalant. We should not be so engaged in trying to determine what tomorrow will be that we forget about the benefits of today.
Of course one of the worst issues is to be in the middle of a perfect situation and create angst that keeps you from enjoying that situation. I don’t like big “buts” because “buts” can destroy a moment in a matter of seconds. As we are looking at what’s going on it’s important to pay attention to who we are and who the important people around us are.
I once had someone tell me that I could have anything I want, and what sane person would walk away from that? As an aside if someone offers you anything that you want make sure that you are giving something in return. In spite of the fact that my approach to life seems to be all about the central person of you, it’s important that you realize that we’re all tied together and you won’t be able to focus on you if everyone else fades from your existence. Understand the people around you and what they need call back and even though it might seem simple to you be very aware that it could be the world to them.
With that in mind I saw the a meme about the dust mites that live on our skin. Something so tiny that we can’t even see it, but to them we are the sun, the moon, and all the stars. We are all that has ever existed and all that is important.
In the end we should all be squeezing the life out of every moment and trying to enjoy the minutes, the seconds, the hours, and even the milliseconds that float around. Our day is amazing if we acknowledge that it is amazing. We are the people pull out every stop and make today our best day.
So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you are aware of how special you are. I hope you realize that the world is better because of you. I hope you know that I’m thinking about everyone I can and enjoying my day as I hope you enjoy yours. Mostly I hope that when life gives you lemons you make orange juice. Change what you need and make life the best life it can be, no matter what.
