The sun sets on another day…
Today I was wasting time at lunch while eating a salad and came across a wonderful story about a dog and the world trade centers. This dog saved a whole lot of people in an amazing manner. I was interested and searched for the dog on the net, only to find the whole thing was a hoax. Usually I will post that it is a hoax and step aside as I don’t think there should be false facts online but today, I just stopped. I thought for a second, and just moved on.
On one hand I wanted to correct the person who had posted the falsehood, but on the other did it matter? It is a good question. Did my silence mean anything in the long run, no. Did it mean anything in the short term, well, maybe it would have uplifted a few people with a simple story.
Sometimes silence is a choice. Sometimes silence may well be the best choice. There are people all the time that are not very factual, or that get lost in their good intentions, but so much of it is nonsensical that the universe just may not care. It is often hard to know but the reality is, after a long number of years I keep my silence more than most, and take a step back more times than probably I should. I imagine if I opened my mouth as much as I would have used to, well, I would be very poorly liked.
So as the sun sets on another day, there are far too many things to worry about in life to be concerned with trivial facts. Perhaps if we spent more time paying attention to each other, and less worrying about how much wood a wood chuck could chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood we we see a differently light in the world. Perhaps, if only for a moment, if we set down our phones and stopped looking for how much someones bottom weighs, we would see that someone cares. Perhaps if we were sometimes silent, we would hear something special, and realize the world is a pretty awesome place. I challenge you to find a moment of silence, and see someone for who they really are, and enjoy that moment, no matter what.
