The sun sets on another day…
Sunset was clear, crisp, and amazing. As I watched I was lost in the moment, and at the end the light played its trick and flashed green for a moment. I smiled.
I sat through a presentation on risk today and thought about all of the risks beyond work that each of us take everyday. I thought about weighing these risks and how it would affect life. It didn’t take very long to realize that risk is at the center of having a good life. Not the avoidance of risk but the willingness to embrace risk and overcome it.
I am sure you’ve heard the statement there’s no such thing as a free lunch, an equal statement would be there is no such thing as a sure thing. Each day we walk in to situations and in the back of our mind we measure risk as we progress. Some of us are risk adverse and avoid life completely in favor of safety. Some of us Embrace risk far too readily and as such are constantly in danger. I would like to think the bulk of us are somewhere in the middle. Measuring risk to their own level and making good decisions based on what risks they’re willing to take.
With that in mind think about how you approach risk and how you want to live your life. Some people will be more risk adverse and they will live their life just fine but will never have the experience of someone who engages risk more freely. Some people may Embrace risk and they may experience numerous issues and heartaches even though their life experience is larger. It is all a very personal thing in the end.
I have spent my life and embraced quite a bit of risk. I have been around the world many times and been many places and done many things that others may have not. This does not make me any better than anyone else but I feel I have lived a full life. With that in mind I perhaps do not embrace risk as much but I am still willing to do what is necessary to live a full life.
What about you? Do you find yourself avoiding things because of risk or embracing things because of the thrill? No matter how you approach it all in the end you made the decision. You will find yourself thinking about the risks in your life and the possibilities that we all have.
So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you enjoy your decisions and embrace the risk that makes your life amazing. Make that move, get that job, start that company, and do it with style and grace. You will be amazed at the outcome and the experience will live with you for a lifetime.
Sleep sweet, love life, and enjoy the day…
