Can’t is…

The sun sets on another day…

The sunset was seen by many tonight. The cool breeze and the light clouds made a less powerful sunset, or was in=t more powerful? The hues were stunning as people were mesmerized by the slowly setting orb, and then it was gone, only a memory remained.

Tonight I continue to write about the list published by a friend. At the end I will post the republished, revised, and exciting list as a reminder of all the things we can leave our children. Tonight’s message was: “Can’t is a cop out.”

It is simple, elegant, and says a serious amount without going into any detail. It is also true. Can’t is a cop out. It is an excuse to avoid something, to set it aside. As people we have the will to do anything and the ability to back it up if we try. Sure, you can say “We can’t fly” because that would be silly, but it seems we found a way or you could say “we can’t grow another arm ” or something silly to throw the idea off, but you would be missing the point. All too often we say “can’t” for the smallest things and it is those small things that make the biggest difference sometimes. “Daddy can you read to me?” “I can’t I am busy”, “Honey can you take off tomorrow” “I can’t I am too busy” and so forth are minimal examples of the cop outs we create. somewhere in the midst of it all we apply it to gym memberships, visiting friends, family, and dozens of more interesting items, but in the end it is our choice.

Now don’t get me wrong, there are things that interfere with life. Work can play havoc on life, people can mess up gym time, friends can be hard to reach and a myriad of other exceptions, but the truth is we can find a way and at least try. That is the important word, try. It isn’t that I can’t, it is that I tried and I did not succeed, that means I will try again and again until I do succeed. Right?

So, as the sun sets on another day, let’s discard the word can’t for a while. Instead let’s use “I will try” or set goals and reach for them. After all, in the “Impossible Dream” you have to be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause, right? Let’s take a moment and make sure we start walking when it is time, and try to do the impossible, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love life, and live it with passion…
