The sun sets on another day…
It was a sudden sunset since I was heads down working on a document, looked up and it was dark. Ooops. I completely lost track of the time.
With a conversation being a spark I have been mulling over the idea of bliss. Bliss is something a lot of people seek, it is defined as “reach a state of perfect happiness, typically so as to be oblivious of everything else.” So many are looking for it, seeking it, or think it is an endgame, including me, that I wonder if they truly thought about bliss?
Bliss to me is a state where you just feel at peace or at ease with everything. I have thought about it a lot over the last few days. Peace is a great things as peace is defined as “freedom from disturbance; tranquility.” some people may think they are the same, but I think they are quite different.
With peace you have no disturbance, no chaos, no real issues, but with bliss you are happy and content, free to be free within your contentment. To me this loses some of the passion I think we need in life.
If you have bliss you are basically happy with everything, so why then would you push to achieve anything? If you have it all, what is left? I think Alexander showed this best as he stood on the top of his hill, “he wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer.” Passion gives us the ability to overcome, to feel, to reach for more, but perhaps bliss gives us the ability to be happy with what we have, to stop achieving, and to live with wherever we are right now.
Sure, this is my opinion, but if you look at the sunset, it is always burning, always powerful, and never in the same state from moment to moment. It pulls deep powerful feelings, and perhaps peace, and silence, and maybe a little more, but the sunset is the start and the end of change, and maybe change is what we are about. Change and passion, and maybe a little more are what define our greatest moves forward. We will be more with passion than bliss. (Though slices of it would be nice from time to time)
So as the sun sets on another day. Have a little bliss, a little peace, and a little more. Take the time to enjoy the peace and happiness, but find the passion and the hunger for more to drive you to greater things. Press forward and make the world yours, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, press on, and love like you will never love again…
