A matter of honor…

The sun sets on another day…

Sunset was well hidden, mostly because I was wandering around with appliances and 2 wheelers. When I saw the colors I could only smile and enjoy what was left, happy with what I could see.

I think a lot about honor. Honor as defined is to regard or treat someone with respect, recognition, or admiration. Honoring your father or mother becomes a genuine lesson in seeing past their faults to who they are, and what they have done for you. Honoring a veteran is showing that you appreciate what they have given you, a sacrifice far beyond what many will give. You can use this word in many ways and it comes back to respect.

What about everyone else? Sure, you can honor someone special, but do you honor those you do not know? Do you hold someone in high esteem that you may not know well enough to see in high esteem. Do you honor those who bring you food, those who teach, those who do little directly for you, but still are there in your life?

I would say “yes” not because they deserve it, but because you do. Yes, you deserve to honor others so you can be honored yourself. This is an opinion based on seeing past the day to day and realizing if you cannot honor others, how can they honor you?

Another who cares, right? Well, maybe not.

I have honored a lot of people that deserved it, and honored many people who do not. When people understand that you honor them, I believe they usually honor you as well. It is not always true, but it should be.

I have honored many, and it is true I have dishonored some people. I have been honored, and I have been dishonored. Still, I will try to take the high path and realize that there is often more than meets the eye and the complexities of people shift the balance of honor each day. Still, try to do what is best for others, and for you.

So as the sun sets on another day, this is a million day debate. Define honor to yourself, and live for the highest form of honor, loving someone without expectation, even if it hurts sometimes. Believe every day can be amazing and it will be, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love all you can, and be yourself…
