The sun sets on another day…
It was a stunning sunset filled with fire and life. As I watched the sky I noticed a giant cloud that looked like a chicken looking at me. I wondered if as the rain fell if that chicken was laying an egg.
Sometimes you just want to be silly. I find that I’m in that particular frame of mind a lot. There are so many things in the world that are serious that sometimes I just need to let go and as I do lose myself in a little bit of silly.
Now there are a lot of people that think that silly is silly. I know people that can’t watch a fantasy movie because it’s not real. Those self-same people sometimes get lost in shows like Game of Thrones and find themselves in fantasy even though they didn’t want fantasy. I’m not sure how that works.
All that’s unimportant, I just want everyone in the world to know that sometimes it’s okay to be silly. Sometimes it’s okay to lose yourself in the comedy of the moment. Sometimes it’s okay not to be that person who is looking for the serious side of everything.
I talked to a lot of people. Recently I was talking to someone about books, I will pause here as you laugh because anyone that knows me is aware I talk about books a lot, but I asked them what they like to read and their answer was only self-help. Being who I am I had a series of about eight titles off the top of my head that I threw out there, but I also asked why just the self help. Their answer was simple, they are always trying to be better. When I asked what they did for fun, they said they didn’t really know.
In the original Star Trek series there is an episode called Shore leave. In that episode it is called out that the more complex the mind the more necessary it is for play. When I first watched it in the early 70s I didn’t really get it, but as I have grown older I have found that play, silliness, light-heartedness, and a little more, are amazing things that we should pay attention to.
So as the sun sets on another day, go swimming, play golf, go running, do a cartwheel, find the ways to let go and maybe go to a comedy club or just sit around with friends telling jokes all day. I think you’ll find that the world is the best place it can be because there’s a little laughter wandering around. Be part of that laughter, and take the complexity out of your life, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and build a better mouse trap…
